Gladiators come out to play at Wimbledon
ByAnybody living in the UK will understand when I say that Wimbledon is a big event. It’s huge here in the land of the Queen. And it’s particularly hair raising for any poor English tennis player who happens to make it as a competitor.
My sympathies to Andy Murray on his loss in the semi finals. Will that make the papers or what! Every point will be discussed in great detail. And many a nasty word as well, which is a pity because the guy played great tennis. He just got beaten by a better player on the day.
But this post isn’t about Andy Murray. This is about one of my favourite players, or at least one of two the other one being the sister, and that is Serena Williams. What a game she had against Elena Dementieva. It was a game that could have been won by either of the women.
Somebody commenting on the game said it was like two gladiators fighting, that was how the competitiveness of these two shone through. It was aggression, cleverness, skill and sportiness. It was what all great competition is about.
I must say that I wanted Serena to win. Somehow her determination to win was stronger, or it just came through more clearly. Every fiber of her body seemed to tremble with that will power. Her face, her stance, her game all showed her strength and will. It was awesome.
You want to know what will make you a winner? At whatever you want to win at? Truly watch Serena Williams play in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Be just like that.
You will succeed!
